These two shots are part of a series I did one night on a german airport near Frankfurt. I had to oversee the loading into one of the airplanes and used the spare time to take some photos. It was a very unique experience and I was able to get shots which normally are not that easy to take.

Eye of the Storm

Eye of the Storm
EM-5, 9-18 mm, f4, ISO 200, 1/2000s

This is another shot from my trip to London, England earlier this year. It was my first time in London and my trip lasted just one day. So I tried to see as much as possible starting with a ride in the London Eye right at the Westminster Bridge. Fortunately I bought a ticket online and skiped the line and did not lose much time waiting for the ride.

It took 30 minutes and the view at the top was amazing as you can see on the picture. You get a good sense just how big London is. I was able to catch some good shots up there but the relfection of the other people in the glass is distracting on some shots.

This was one of my first shots with the EM-5 from November 2012. I took this one with the 75mm M.Zuiko. Normally I would not consider this the ideal street photography lens but the result blow me away every time. The lens’ image renderings are always super sharp, detailed, contrasty with a lovely bokeh which this shot displays very well. With this shot you can see how well the IS system in the EM-5 works. With a 75mm lens (150mm full frame) you would normally need a shutter speed of 1/150s to get sharp images, with the EM-5 clearly 1/15s are sufficient. Amazing stuff 🙂

This shot was part of a little low-key serie I took from myself. I just got my second flash and wanted to try it out. On youtube I found an interesting video on low-key photography and wanted to test it myself. For this I used an all black background that absorbed all the spreading light from the flashes and underexposed the shot to eliminate the remaining available light. With this settings I could work on the lighting setup and end up using one flash shooting at a 45 degree angle from the reight and one flash shooting at my back creating the seperation between me and the background. In post I darken it a bit and put in some claritiy as well as sharpness to create this grittier look. Hope you like it. Every comment appreciated 🙂

I love this shot this much and it was taken more or less by accident on new year’s eve. Anja and I were at my parent’s house for dinner and it was farily dark so I had to pump up the ISO on my EM-5 to get a sufficient shutter speed. ISO 4000 it is for this shot and the result is simply stunning. The clarity, detail and sharpness is amazing for this sensitivity and the image the 75mm lens renders is just beautiful.

I love Anja’s pose as well. It’s not very easy to have Anja sitting patiently for a shot and she always like to pull faces 😀 but this one is just outstanding. Thank you honey for letting me take this shot.
